بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

83.1-6

وَیْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِیْنَۙ (1) الَّذِیْنَ اِذَا اكْتَالُوْا عَلَى النَّاسِ یَسْتَوْفُوْنَ٘ ۖ (2) وَ اِذَا كَالُوْهُمْ اَوْ وَّ زَنُوْهُمْ یُخْسِرُوْنَﭤ(3) اَلَا یَظُنُّ اُولٰٓىٕكَ اَنَّهُمْ مَّبْعُوْثُوْنَۙ (4) لِیَوْمٍ عَظِیْمٍۙ (5) یَّوْمَ یَقُوْمُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَﭤ(6)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Woe to the defrauders; [1] those who when taking measure from people seek it in full. And when they measure for them or weigh for them, they lessen. [1] Do these people not have certainty that they will be brought back to life? For a momentous Day. The Day all people will stand before the Lord of the worlds. [1]

Commentary

The outcome for honestly measuring and weighing goods is fruitful in the world as it engenders trust, increases business, and motivates blessings in sustenance. It will also have a positive impact in the Hereafter as one will be free from the rights of people in this regard. In these verses, there is a severe warning for those who lessen when measuring and weighing.

All forms of deception when measuring and weighing goods are included in this verse, e.g., pulling stretchy cloth when measuring it, attaching something under the scales in which goods are placed to weigh, and altering the settings of digital scales.

Meaning, the day when everyone will be stood for the accountability of actions and recompense in the court of Allah Almighty, on that day, the fraud of these people in weighing and measuring and its result will become apparent.
